Whiplash
Whiplash injuries are not only the result of car accidents, a fall can also give a whiplash type injury. These injuries are caused by a sudden movement of the head and can lead to:
- The muscles and ligaments supporting the spine can be overstretched or torn
- The discs between the vertebrae can bulge, tear or rupture
- Vertebrae can be forced out of their normal position, reducing range of motion
- Spinal cord nerve roots can be overstretched or irritated
A major problem with whiplash is that often symptoms do not develop for some time and too often people do not seek treatment until more complications develop.
At our clinic we will carry out a thorough examination before using gentle chiropractic adjustments to help restore spinal function. This will be followed by a rehabilitation programme to further help you recover, which will include exercises for postural correction and muscle strengthening.
